Hans Baldung: Drawings & Paintings (Annotated) Details

Baldung contributed to the introduction of supernatural and erotic themes in German art. His most original paintings are small in scale; they are a series of puzzling, often erotic allegories and mythological works. The number of religious works of Baldung decreases with the Protestant Reformation, which in general rejects the art as wasteful or idolatrous. His enthusiasm for the subject of witchcraft continued until the end of his career.Hans Baldung never worked directly with reformist leaders to spread religious ideas through his works, even though he lived in the fiercely holy city of Strasbourg and was a proponent of the Reform movement as he working on the main altar in Münster, Germany. Throughout his life, Baldung has also portrayed many portraits known for his sharp features style. While Dürer depicts his models in detail, Baldung's style differs, focusing more on the personality of the character represented, the abstract perception of the state of mind of the model.
